How much water you drink should literally be one of the most important parts of your regimen, if anything. Gary’s grandma always taught us that a good rule of thumb ?? is to drink half your body weight in ounces per day.
(So if you’re 150 lbs, give or take, you should be drinking 75 ounces per day).
That seems like a lot, but I dare you to give it a try. Go for like, two weeks, and just see how your body adapts and begins to yearn and CRAVE water like no other substance that’s ever touched your lips. That’s what I did when I was 18. My a/c had been out in my car and it was in the middle of a dead-hot humid summer in Virginia. I got one of those Bubba kegs from Wal-mart and took this whole half the body weight idea to task and have never looked back. It’s a game-changer.
*Tips:
- No time to drink water or afraid you won’t have time to use the little girls’ room so much during the day? (I hear you. I’ve been teaching kindergarten for 11 years!) Leave a tall glass of water next to your bedside when you go to sleep. As soon as you wake up; down that schooner like it’s your 21st birthday! By the time you get moving and get to work, you’ll be able to use the bathroom just in time you begin your day.
- Have pre-measured drinking cups/bottles that meet your quota. I use the same two bottles and a 30 oz Yeti every single day. I know that I have to drink at least my whole Yeti and two 24 oz bottles per day to meet my quota. (If I don’t drink both bottles during the workday, I slam them down on my way home and keep myself accountable. I do not leave my car unless those two bottles are empty!)
These are my favorite water bottles:
It’s super simple to grab them, take a swig, and throw them wherever without having to worry about screwing a top or leaking. They are also the perfect size to fit in my car cup holders (ya know…it’s the little things).
- BUY a 30 oz YETI or something similar, and KEEP IT IN YOUR CAR at all times. Both the Ozark Trail (Wal-mart) and the Yeti 30 oz tumblers keep my iced water cold through the hottest of hot summers. The “Magslider” closing lid is also a must to keep your drink cold. I can’t tell you how nice it is when I’m running errands or run out of water at work and I have a nice, temp-regulated water waiting for me in my car, whenever I need it. Plus it’s kept in a nice, clean, non-cancer-causing stainless steel container. Stay away from those BPA-filled water bottles!
- Still afraid of having to ‘go’ too much? Start this regimen over vacation so that your body can get used to it. Believe me. I am only able to use the bathroom before school (8:20am), during my lunch (11:20), and during my planning (2:30) each school day. It’s doable! Your body will adapt and get used to drinking a lot of water.
