Natural Deodorant Routine

Raise your hand if you have sensitive skin! ?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️ I sure do. I swear the moment I turned THE BIG 3-0 my whole body changed and became SO sensitive to things I drink or that come in contact with my skin.

**Disclaimer: Everyone’s skin is different. Just because this happened to work for me and my family, doesn’t mean it will work for everyone.

About 2 years ago, I started to develop lumps under the skin near my armpits. I was already a Nervous Nelly about the whole aluminum business being soaked into my body every day through my clinical-strength deodorant. But I was very skeptical of switching to “au natural” because, well, I sweat a lot. More than the average gal. So much so that I refrain from wearing sleeveless shirts. I have to wear an undershirt under E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G! (I’ve been known to wear t-shirts under a sleeveless top or dress and hide it with a cardigan or jacket).

So this made me look into other options. I tried the only OTC version I could find (at the time): a good Tom’s of Maine product. Needless to say, it didn’t work. I went through the 2 week “withdrawal” period and it still didn’t work effectively. ❌ fail ❌

So I looked to Amazon, my trusted friend. After sifting through MANY reviews, I decided upon Schmidt’s. Back then it only came in a little jar and you had to warm it up before you spooned it on. This was also a ❌fail ❌ for me. Not only was it a pain to put on, but my skin started breaking out so much that it was too painful to continue using.

Then my sister Joni (super hip, vegan mom who is the quintessential Proverbs 31 wife) told me about the deodorant she was using: Native. She had been using it had stayed odor-free; even during her hour-long fitness classes teaching REFIT! I was sold! Back then, you could only find Native through their website, so I ordered a stick of their unscented version to try (I’m SUPER picky with smells).

First impressions of Native: I liked it. It came in a regular deodorant bar and went on smoothly, never causing my skin to break out. I did notice, however, that I needed a little something extra. I overheard that my brother-in-law was using a thai crystal stone in lieu of the aluminum stuff. I was intrigued by his success with it and I decided to try it. After lots of “how to” videos on how the heck to use this stone, I found success and the perfect recipe for my natural deodorant routine! ✅ WINNER✅

Native Deodorant + Thai Crystal = Perfection

Here are the two products that I have used every day for the last two years:

*Tips:

  • Apply Thai Stone after you shower.
  • Only use a SMALL amount of water to the stone, or else you will be rubbing for an endless amount of time!
  • Only apply 1-3 swipes of the Native deodorant at a time.  Otherwise your skin could break out.
  • These products do not prevent sweating!  They just help with odor.
  • If you’re like me and need to wear undershirts under everything but hate how they ride up and create a bulge under your shirts/dresses, say hello to CROP TOPS!  These will become your new bestie.  V-neck crop tops work the best.  Here are some of my favorites:

*And if you don’t have a crop top on hand, just do a backwards-tuck with a regular short-sleeved v-neck up under your bra!
